Hayling Island, 10 August

Our third qualifying round of the year was played at Hayling Island on 10 August. With one more qualifier to go, this year's Golfer of the Year and Worst Golfer of the Year will be awarded on a best three out of four.

We had a good turnout of 20 golfers, incuding four guests, at Hayling. The course was at its excellent self, with a bit more bite as the breeze got up. I remember the par 3 straight into the wind took a few balls, most of them mine...

But it was a great day with plenty of sunshine. The greens were, I seem to remember, quite quick and true. The food was excellent and, in all, it was a great day - thanks to Lockey for his input at the club.

Suffice it to say Lockey's name appeared on all the holes prizes - he won two out of the three - and he won overall with 37pts. Perhaps home course players should have a two shot reduction when the society comes to play...

I wonder what Irv will think of that.

And Irv The Younger managed to get his picture taken with Iain Sutherland's Noel Hunt Trophy for not only driving the green on a hole where others either took three to get there, or maybe didn't even get there in my case. I think it was a par 4, which he promptly eagled, thanking the group ahead for dropping the flagstick handily across the green to stop his ball from going over the green into the rough.

Great shot, Robin.

The results for Hayling are all in the usual place, so all that remains is to say I now have 12 players booked in for Alresford (or Arlsford, if you insist...). So that's JA, Barrow (P), The Biker, Irv, NTL VC, Lockey, Martin Lowson, PC Moore, Hon Sec, Peeky, Arve and M. le Presidente. No guests so far...

Our next event is Hayling Island on Wednesday 10 August - hit the link NOW to tell me you're coming along.
